Elon musk tweets on Twitter to use signal but why?

“Use signal,” Tesla Inc. On 7 January 2021, the CEO wrote on Twitter, seemingly referring to an encrypted messaging service. Signal Advance Inc. shares had more than six times risen by the end of the day. This was sufficient to drive more than 5,100 percent of Signal Advancing’s rally over three trading days, which according to Bloomberg was estimated to be $390 million.

Details of the signal app:

What is a signal app?
It uses the Internet to send a single message and group messages, which include the filing of files, voice notes, pictures, and videos.

The signal is a centrally-designed, encrypted message center, developed for the Signal Technology Foundation and SignalMessenger, LLC. It can also be used for voice and video calls one-to-one and community, and the Android version can be used for an SMS app.

Signal uses regular cellphone numbers as identifications and guarantees all messages with end-to-end encryption to other signal users. The applications provide mechanisms by which users can confirm the identity and reputation of their contacts independently.
Signal also has an official iOS customer app and Windows, macOS, and Linux desktop software.

The Signal Special Foundation, which had been initially funded by Brian Acton, was launched in February 2018 at $50 million. By June 2020, over 32,4 million downloads had been given to Signal, and by December 2020 it had around 20 million active users per month.

Features of Signal:

Signal helps users to dial one-to-one on iOS, Android, and desktop and to make voice and video calls with up to 8 individuals. All calls are made over Wi-Fi or a data link and are free, including long-distance and international calls (excluding data charges), and allow users to send text messages, files, voice notes and images, GIFs and videos to other signal users through a Wi-Fi or a desktop app on iOS, Android or other Signal. The app supports group messaging as well.

All Signal consumer messages are encrypted end-to-end automatically. Signal users may compare the key fingerprints (or the scan of QR codes) out-of-band. The app uses a trust-in-first-use mechanism to inform you when key changes are made by a correspondent. The keystone keys used to encode communications are generated and stored at the endpoints.

On Android, users can choose to make Signals the default SMS/MMS program so that, in addition to regular, encrypted Signal messages, they can send and receive unencrypted SMS messages. Users can then use the same app to communicate with contacts without Signal. The unencrypted sending of messages will also be available as an override for Signal users.

TextSecure enables the user to set a passphrase encrypting the local message and user key encryption databases. The contact database or message timestamps were not encrypted by the recipient. The Android and iOS signal applications can be locked by a pin, passphrase, or biometric authentication of the phone. The user may define a “screen lock timeout” interval for the screen and provide an additional safeguard in case of loss or the phones being robbed.

Signal also allows users to set timers to message. The messages will be deleted from both sender and receiver devices after specifying a time interval.

The time interval can be between five seconds and one week and the time interval begins for each receiver, once their copy of the message has been read.

Signal excludes users from unencrypted cloud supports by design.

Signal allows users to blur people’s faces in images automatically to protect their identities.
